「 Deoksugung Palace 」
One of Old Palaces in Seoul
Written by Susan LIM
Deoksugung Palace
is one of five royal palaces of the
Joseon Dynasty where the trace of
modern history of Korea is preserved.
Though Deoksugung Palace
is the smallest of five palaces, it is the
only palace among the palaces of Seoul
where there are modern-style walks and
Western style gardens. It's a building that
is well-mixed with the Middle Ages
and modern times.
I'll show you
how to get to Deoksugung Palace
and how it is like.

Once you get inside of the palace,
you escape from the busy and noisy
modern city and enter into tranquil and
peaceful space of the past .
Junghwajeon Hall is the main hall
of Deoksugung Palace. It was the hall
in which State affairs were conducted,
official meeting held, foreign envoys
received.
There are wonderful fountains and
gardens in front of the art museum.
You can see Angbuilgu,
Hemispherical Sundail of the
Joseon Dynasty.
This is Seokjojeon Hall, which means
the stone house.
It was a representative Western-style
building of Daehan Empire period.
King Kojong met the diplomatic envoys
and the prime minister at Seokjojeon.
You can see Korean traditional buildings
from the stairs of Seokjojeon Hall.
As you can see the photos above,
traditional Korean buildings are decorated
with Danchung, which is a drawing of
various patterns using five colors of blue,
red, yellow, white, and black as a base.
On one side of the old palace,
there is a small pond that looks as old
as the old palace and there is also an
old big tree that tells the time.
Deoksugung Palace is also famous
for its elegant stone-wall road.
